In contrast, other components have different roles: the CPU, or Central Processing Unit, serves as the brain of the computer, executing instructions and processing data but not storing it long-term. The motherboard acts as the main circuit board, connecting all the components and allowing them to communicate but does not store data itself. RAM, or Random Access Memory, is a type of volatile memory that temporarily holds data and program instructions while a computer is running; once the power is turned off, any data in RAM is lost. Therefore, the hard drive is distinctly designated as the main storage area for user data.
